Labor Day weekend was SUPPOSED to be a fun family filled weekend up at Camp LoMia for the Wright family reunion. Boy...was I wrong about that! The day before we were supposed to leave, I took Bo into the doctor to have his lungs listened to in case he was getting sick. Lungs were clear but there was a double ear infection. That took Bo and I out of the running to go to the reunion. So, John and the girls and Benny took off Saturday morning without us. As much as I wanted to go, I thought this will be such an enjoyable weekend with just Bo and I. Boy, was I wrong again! At 2 AM, the front door bursts open and John and the kids walk in. John was holding Benny who was breathing so hard his ribs were showing. I could tell John was a little panicked so I took Benny and laid down with him to get him to calm down. If he didn't calm down, I knew I needed to take him to the ER. He wasn't comfortable, but he went to sleep and woke up the next morning pretty happy. The girls were dying to get back up tot he reunion so I told John to go ahead and take them back up. So they left again. Benny was still breathing heavily so I decided to take him into Urgent Care right when it opened. They took one look at him and got him right in. I didn't know what the big deal was. All I needed was a prescription to calm him breathing down. They gave him a breathing treatment and a steroid and said if his breathing didn't regulate, we'd have to go to the hospital. WHAT? This was a way bigger deal than I had expected. Thankfully, his breathing did regulate and they told us that he had a full blown asthma attack. Benny's an asthmatic. This hadn't even crossed my mind and I'm mad at myself for not thinking of it. Neither John nor I are asthmatics and none of our kids are so this was the first time we've had to deal with it. But still, I should've thought of it. We spent the majority of Sunday at my parents' house just in case we had to go back if his fever spiked. That night I had to do a breathing treatment every 4 hours on Benny in his sleep. This was serious business. I had my dad and Brad give him a blessing before we went home and I felt like it was an extra source of strength and comfort to both me and him. Just what we needed. Now we are on day 3 of steroids and Benny is doing great. I'm glad I finally have an answer to this crazy stuff.
